Title: Off-design performance of CSP plant based on recompression S-CO2 Brayton cycle in various operating scenarios
Abstract: 
The concentrated solar power (CSP) system integrated solar power tower, thermal energy storage (TES), and S-CO2 Brayton cycle has emerged as a promising technology that can convert the intermittent solar energy into dispatchable power output. The CSP plant can not only operate independently, but also assist the intermittent power production from renewable energy power stations, such as PV plant and wind farm, to connect to the grid. When the CSP plant operates under variable weather conditions, different power load demands, and different hybrid systems, the operating conditions always deviate from the design conditions, namely off-design conditions. In this speach, the off-design performance of CSP plant based on recompression S-CO2 Brayton cycle under various operating scenarios are discussed. The typical weathers are selected. The independent CSP plant, PV-CSP hybrid system, and PV-wind-CSP hybrid system are included. The stable load demand and typical time-varying load demand are considered. Results show that the CSP plant equipped with appropriate solar field capacity and TES capacity can effectively promote the grid connection of PV and wind power productions. But the daily performance of CSP plant in hybrid system is worse than that in independent system. For example, under typical sunny day and typical time-varying load demand, the daily efficiency of CSP plant in PV-CSP hybrid system is 9.34% lower than that in independent system, and the operating duration of CSP plant in PV-CSP hybrid system is 6 hours less than that in independent system.

Dr. Zhen Yang is an associate professor at Department of Energy and Power Engineering, Tsinghua University. His research interest includes Thermophysical properties of fluids, Thermal Energy Storage, Solar Thermal Power System, Boiling & Condensation.
